The Piece
This isn't a print you'll see explained on a hundred other tees — it's a piece for the ones who already know the myth on sight. A museum work, out for a walk: cut in a standard fit, heavyweight cotton, built to be worn the way you'd wear a piece you're proud to own not something that blends in.
The Artwork
The design is drawn from L'Amour et Psyché (1899) by French painter William-Adolphe Bouguereau, depicting Cupid carrying Psyche through the sky in a sweeping embrace, both figures winged, suspended above the clouds. It's the final and most mature of three paintings Bouguereau made of the pair as adult lovers, the Greek myth of a mortal woman made immortal by love, rendered in his signature soft, luminous realism.
The Artist
William-Adolphe Bouguereau (1825–1905) was one of the most celebrated French Academic painters of the 19th century, President of the Société des Artistes Français and a fixture of the Paris Salon. Trained in the classical tradition, he built his reputation on mythological and allegorical scenes rendered with near-photographic precision — idealized figures, soft light, and technical mastery that made him one of the most successful painters of his era, even as the Impressionists around him pushed art in the opposite direction.
The Intervention
The sky and clouds behind Cupid and Psyche are rebuilt to form the PHAVOS logo, with the two figures floating in front of it — the myth suspended not just above the clouds, but above the brand's own mark.
