The Piece
An oversized heavyweight 305gsm 100% organic cotton tee, made to wear every day. The artwork comes from a late, deeply personal work by one of Japan’s great printmakers. You don’t need to know the story behind it for it to feel right , but it is there for those who do.

The Artwork
The back print reproduces Tamausagi Songokū ("Songoku and the Jewel Hare"), from Tsukioka Yoshitoshi's celebrated series Tsuki Hyakushi — "One Hundred Aspects of the Moon" (1885–1892). The scene depicts Son Goku, the Monkey King from the Chinese classic Journey to the West, glaring at the Jade Rabbit said to live on the moon — a full, glowing moon dominating the composition more than in any other print in the series.

The Artist
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi (1839–1892) is widely regarded as the last great master of ukiyo-e. Working through a period of rapid Westernization in Meiji-era Japan, he drew on Japanese and Chinese history, folklore, and legend for his final and most acclaimed series, One Hundred Aspects of the Moon, completed in the last years of his life.

The artwork is presented close to its original form, with the PHAVOS logo placed within the moon.
